About

On December 21, 2012 the Mayan Calendar and the Age of Man end. Should that end be literal this becomes a silly exercise. But we are hedging our bets.

The original Devonian Age, between 315 and 412 Million years ago, was characterized by colonization of the land by larger plants and animals up to the first true trees and primeval forests. This became the world that birthed humanity. The Devonian Age experienced a number of “extinction events” that seriously decimated planetary populations. The New Devonian Age seems likely to repeat this. But just as our life evolved from the events of that first Devonian Age, we trust that the New Devonian will be a crucible for our next evolutionary steps. Join us as we celebrate life, change, and our relationship to the universe.

The New Devonian Calendar begins, as the Mayan Calendar ends, on The Winter Solstice of 2012 ~ New Devonian (nD) Year 1. As human beings adapt to the changing climate and diminished resources of this new age, we embrace a new calendar that connects us with something greater than ourselves. The New Devonian Calendar reflects an understanding with which we can re-establish harmony with Nature and each other.

The New Devonian is a calendar of our Celestial companions who have nurtured all life and bestowed the essential rhythms of dark, light, heat, cold, and the motions of the oceans upon us. Whether we think of it Spiritually or as a fact of Science, our relationship to the Sun and Moon is real and wound tightly in our DNA.

The New Devonian Calendar is practical, apolitical, and non-sectarian. Each of the 12 months has 28 days. The remaining 29 days are divided into week-long periods of celebration around each of the Solstices and Equinoxes. The Winter Solstice Celebration takes the odd 365th day ~ and the Leap year day when that occurs. We are not naming the Celebratory Days. Call them what you will and we will see what sticks over time. Months are Early, Middle, and Late of whichever season we are in – until something better evolves. Who knows, you might be the one who names the middle month of Winter or comes up with more appropriate names for the days of the week. For now we will stick with Sunday through Saturday.

In this first New Devonian Calendar the days of the week correspond to the current calendar, but the months and numbers for days do not. There are some very practical aspects to this. During Year 1 (nD), for example, Tuesdays fall on the 1st, 8th, 15th, and 22nd of each month. Those third Tuesday meetings always fall on the 15th.

Moon phases also closely follow the seasonal calendars. There are other advantages to this calendar that are not apparent at this time. (We are inspired, not necessarily prescient.) In the first few years of publication we will include the old Western calendar dates to help people transition.

We welcome comments and suggestions.
